Scientists Declare Unusual Mortality Event

The atypically high number of dolphins and whales beaching themselves on Santa Barbara shores has led the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to declare an “Unusual Mortality Event” in hopes that the announcement could result in additional funding needed for research into why the marine mammals – 21 so far – have died.
