Violent Femmes Play With Threes and Nines

The Violent Femmes

Well-loved alternative rock legends The Violent Femmes are coming back to town to dazzle die hard fans with old-time favorite tunes and their original musical personality. Commonly considered the birth parents of the folk punk subgenre, this eclectic band has influenced everyone from Billy Corgan to Bob Dylan, and has now even reached the newest generation of alternative. Arroyo Grande’s Threes and Nines, The Violent Femmes’ opening band, has been compared to the Femmes on multiple occasions. This rising three-piece band-influenced acoustic jazz, folk, bluegrass-is already well-known for originality, crazy antics and unpredictable stage presence. (They once took it to the point of arranging for a friend to punch the lead singer in the face mid-drum solo.) The pair of high-energy and enjoyably weird bands will deliver Ventura Theater’s guests a full night of wild talent and just might prove to be a tough act to follow.

They play Sunday, July 29 at 7 p.m.
