California Federation of Interpreters Goes On Strike
Members of the California Federation of Interpreters working in the court systems of Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo counties went on strike as of 9/5. The interpreters’ union aims to get its members a five percent raise and a tiered system awarding pay increases depending on experience. Union officials rejected the court administrators’ offer of a four percent raise. Santa Barbara County employs only one full-time court interpreter, Jose Navarrete, who admitted that his one-man protest would be “symbolic.”
