Gun Club Denied Access in National Forest

The Coalition to Save Husahkiw-Chumash Wind Caves was successful in forcing the Winchester Canyon Gun Club to move away from geological features, including caves housing Chumash paintings, in the Los Padres National Forest. U.S. Department of Agriculture Deputy Regional Forester James M. Pena reversed a Forest Service decision to grant the shooting range a new 20-year permit, saying that he “could not find any documentation that the project mitigation measures are going to be effective.” The permit application will now return to the Forest Service.
