UC System to Increase Specificity of Demographic Reporting

The UC system announced on 10/16 that it will become the first public institution of higher learning to detail the demographics of Asian-American students, enabling policymakers to better serve Asian ethnicities that do not match the “model minority” profile. (For example, only 44 percent of Hmong adults have high school diplomas.) Next year’s undergraduate application will include 23 Asian and Pacific Islander categories compared to the current eight.
