Through Darkness and Light

Audiences witnessed all sorts of choreographic statements this weekend when undergrads in UCSB’s Dance Department showcased their original work at Hatlen Theatre. The show, called Through Darkness and Light, explored dramatic themes through choreography that ranged from playful to moving. The inconsistency of dancers and styles of movement, however, fell just short of full realization.

Kids Draw Architecture is an annual exhibit that matches professional architects with the community’s youth to create inspirational (and adorable) drawings of S.B. landmarks.

Luis Mu±oz

Local Latin jazz aficionado Luis Mu±oz has done it again. Following the critical success of 2006’s Vida (which garnered Mu±oz the title of 2006 Producer of the Year from Costa Rica’s ACAM), the multi-talented multi-instrumentalist’s Of Soul and Shadow picks up right where its predecessor left off.

What makes Canadian singer Jane Siberry a standout among other contemporary female artists is her ability to create eclectic songs that range from pensive and insightful-such as “Taxi Ride,” from 1985’s The Speckless Sky, which tells of the heartache of a one-sided love affair-to quirky and unexpected, like the toe-tapper “Everything Reminds Me of My Dog.”
