Next Monday, January 21, is the last day to register to vote in California’s primary election, which takes place February 5. In order to register to vote, you must be a citizen of the U.S., a resident of California, at least 18 years old as of the day of the next election, not be in prison or on parole for a felony, and not be deemed by an appropriate court to be mentally incompetent. To register to vote, you must obtain and complete a voter registration form. Forms can be obtained by: calling your local county elections official and requesting a form (568-2200; 800-SBC-VOTE); filling out a voter registration card online (a pre-typed registration form will then be mailed to you); calling the toll-free voter registration hotline at (800) 345-VOTE and requesting a form; or downloading a voter registration form (sos.ca.gov) and mailing it in to the county elections official (PO Box 159, Santa Barbara, CA 93102-0159). Do it!
