City Sewer Program Enjoys Explosive Popularity

The City of Santa Barbara’s Sewer Lateral Inspection Program (SLIP) has been nearly twice as popular as anticipated. The Public Works Department got permission from City Council to allocate more money from its reserves for rebates in 2008, for a total of $615,000. The council is discussing a sewer charge increase to keep up the 200-per-year pace of inspections and replacements, which reduce the amount of wastewater going into the ocean from malfunctions.
