Today’s “Feria de la Salud,” or health fair, focuses on the Latino community in order to educate and promote good health. Sponsored by several nonprofit organizations and businesses – Santa Barbara Public Health Department, Neighborhood Clinics, and City Parks and Recreation Department, among others – this event gives all who attend free screenings for diabetes, blood pressure, cholesterol, as well as free giveaways. The health fair is part of the eighth Binational Health Week October 6-15. This event has become increasingly popular over the past few years, this year occurring in 46 California counties including Santa Barbara.

Those interested can attend the Feria de la Salud at Franklin Community Center, 1136 E. Montecito St., between noon and 3 p.m. today.
