Pet Owners Advised to Protect Animals This Halloween

Halloween is an exciting time of the fall season, but may be hazardous to pets’ health.

Santa Barbara County Animal Services wants to remind the public of several tips for keeping animals out of danger. Among them, keep pets inside the house or garage to spare the animal from any possible pranks. Pets will feel less threatened by Halloween costumes if kept inside. Also, make sure all pets have collars with ID tags, in case they escape. Pet owners are encouraged to keep candy out of the animal’s reach in order to avoid harm due to ingested candy or wrappers. And, finally, owners should also be cautious with Halloween decorations and lit jack-o-lanterns.

If you observe any Halloween pranks harming an animal, be sure to call 911 immediately.

Should a pet be lost, check local animal shelters in Santa Maria, Lompoc, or Santa Barbara.
