New S.B. Farmers Market First to Open on Westside

Wed Sep 30, 2009 | 06:00am

When it comes to farmers’ markets, Santa Barbarans have some of the best quality-and most numerous-options to choose from on the Central Coast. But the Westside Farmers Market, the city’s newest addition to its already impressive list of weekly outdoor marketplaces, proves that one can never have too much of a good thing. Permanently replacing the now-defunct La Cumbre Farmers Market, the new gathering, held every week at Harding Elementary School (Mountain Ave. and W. Valerio St.) is the first and only to be held regularly on S.B.’s Westside. Whether you’re a regular at one of south S.B. County’s seven other homegrown Farmers Market locations or you’ve never had the opportunity to experience any of them, you’ll surely enjoy the new market’s bounty of local produce, agricultural products, and other goods, many of which are grown right in the school’s backyard. Hours are 3 p.m. to dusk every Wednesday. Call 962-5354 or visit sbfarmersmarket.org for more info.
