Mind Training

Lecture Series Teaches the Buddhist Practice of Lojong

Wed Jun 02, 2010 | 06:00am

Who doesn’t know the discomfort of unpleasant, repetitive thoughts? They can be intrusive enough to cause mental duress. Centuries ago, Tibetan Buddhists worked to calm the psyche through the practice of mind training, or lojong. The method is “designed as a set of antidotes to undesired mental habits that cause suffering,” according to Wikipedia. Those interested in learning more about lojong can attend a lecture series titled Mind Training: The Path to Awakening, conducted by Santa Barbara Buddhist practitioner Bart Mendel. Lectures take place 7-9 p.m. on upcoming Thursdays (June 3-July 29) at the Bodhi Path Buddhist Center (30 W. Mission St. #7). Suggested donation is $15 per lecture.
