BootyCamp Fitness Program To Raise Funds for Angels Foster Care; S.B.’s CASA Group Seeks Volunteers for Child Legal Advocacy

Thu Jul 01, 2010 | 12:00am

• BootyCampSB, a new weekly outdoor fitness program quickly growing in popularity, donates a portion of the proceeds from its Saturday exercise classes to a different area charity each month. July’s beneficiary will be the S.B.-based nonprofit Angels Foster Care, a group that provides assistance to abused and neglected children in the County’s foster care system. Each $20 charitable donation, made at the beginning of each month—this time, on Saturday, July 3—covers the three additional classes remaining in the month. June’s first class meets from 9-10 a.m. at Alameda Park (Sola St., between Santa Barbara and Garden sts.) Call 284-3688 for more info.

• Beginning this week, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), a legal support organization for children in S.B. County, will be conducting volunteer training workshops for new potential advocates throughout the month. Volunteer CASA advocates support abused children navigating the municipal court system until their case is closed and they are placed in safer homes; many advocates fulfill a vital role as the sole grown-up providing assistance and encouragement for the child. Advocate training will be held at 6 p.m. on July 8, 12, 15, 19, and 22 at CASA Headquarters (118 E. Figueroa St). Ages 21+. Call 739-9102 for more info.
