Lois Capps either has no real opinion on the U.S. occupation of Afghanistan or refuses to share it because her stated reasons for voting yes on continued war funding can be knocked over with a feather duster:

• “Have to support our troops as long as they’re there.” Bring ’em home. Nuff said.

• “Can’t leave Afghan women and girls at the mercy of the Taliban.” No matter how long we plan to stick around, those we’ve labeled Taliban are going to be around a lot longer.

• “We have to defeat Al Qaeda.” That’s going to take police work and social programs, in a lot more places than Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, both soldiers and non-combatants die and suffer horrendous injuries, families are shattered and the Muslim world’s respect for America fades steadily away. Lois needs to stop ducking the issue and admit that, for whatever reason, she favors the immoral, pro-business military policy that’s bankrupting our country.
