Rancho Guadalupe Dunes County Park West Main Street Access at Park Remains Open, Though Tentative

Fri Mar 04, 2011 | 11:57am

The West Main Street Access to Rancho Guadalupe Dunes County Park remains open for park users, but County staff continues to monitor the situation on a day to day basis due to the continuing threat of undermining of the road by the Santa Maria River. Beginning with the rainstorm events of December 2010, the bank of the adjacent Santa Maria River has crept closer to the road and the erosion threatens the park with a loss of a section of road. The park remains open, but it is subject to closure at any time.

Santa Barbara County Parks has been seeking funding to address the road issue, but no funding is available or identified at this time to be used on this project. County Parks has been informed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency as well as the State of California Emergency Management Agency that disaster funds are not available to repair the portion of the access road that was almost lost in the recent storms. While no available funding has been identified, the County continues to seek all opportunities to address repairs to the access road.
