The support group, Friends of the Goleta Valley Library, have announced that they will provide supplemental funding for the Library’s popular Children’s Programs from June through December 2011.

Corinne Horowitz, President of the Friends, remarked, “The Board voted unanimously to provide $4,600 to cover programs. There was no question when the Librarian asked us to step up.”

In addition to Children’s Programs, the Friends assist financially with the summer reading program. Most importantly for the Goleta community, the Friends’ donations are keeping the library open on Mondays. In 2010, this amounted to $38,000. The Friends have committed to funding the Monday openings until June 2012.

The Friends of the Goleta Valley Library is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity. Gifts to the organization are tax deductible. Funds are raised by memberships (levels rise from the lowest individual rate of $10 up to $1,000 for Library Lover status) and individual donations. In addition, the Friends run a book sale at the Goleta Valley Library with very attractive prices. The Friends’ support benefits the library’s 35,000 patrons, ranging in age from pre-schoolers to seniors.
