While serving a search warrant to 36-year-old Douglas Kurz, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Narcotics Unit with the assistance of the Lompoc Police Department encountered more than they bargained for.

Kurz was stopped at the 200 block of North H Street in Lompoc after he was observed picking up 27-year-old Bryce Combs from the neighborhood. Just prior to the traffic stop, the two were seen loading two large bags into Kurz’s vehicle. After pulling the two over, detectives discovered drug paraphernalia in addition to a number of stolen goods, including coins from two recent commercial burglaries at a coin shop in Lompoc.

Bryce Joseph Combs

The stolen items are reportedly worth $15,000, authorities said. After the proprietor of the coin shop identified the merchandise, both Kurz and Combs were arrested and booked on charges of possession of stolen property, being under the influence of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia that included hypodermic needles. Bail for each is set at $20,000.
