CEC to Announce “Solarize Santa Barbara” at Press Conference
New CEC program designed to bring solar energy to southern Santa Barbara County homes
On Tuesday, April 26th, at 11 a.m., the Community Environmental Council (CEC) will announce the launch of a new program, “Solarize Santa Barbara,” at the home of Santa Barbara resident and solar power user, Daniel Emmett. Janet Wolf, Second District Supervisor of Santa Barbara County, will speak at the press conference, along with Megan Birney, Renewable Energy Specialist, Community Environmental Council. Daniel Emmett will talk about his experience using solar power in his home.
“Solarize Santa Barbara” is a group purchasing discount program for homeowners in Southern Santa Barbara County who want to go solar. The program will officially launch on May 1 and last through July 31, 2011. During this time, South Santa Barbara County residents will be able to purchase solar at a set price, from two, CEC pre-approved, local installers, to be announced at the press conference.
“We are launching ‘Solarize Santa Barbara’ to make going solar easy and accessible for Santa Barbara homeowners,” said Megan Birney, Renewable Energy Specialist, Community Environmental Council. “We at CEC are doing all of the upfront work to bring high value solar electricity to Santa Barbara homes. We encourage everyone who has thought about going solar to take the plunge with us; not only do we take care of all of the legwork that can be confusing and time-consuming for homeowners, but the program is also a great way for local residents to get on the path to moving our region away from fossil fuels.”
Through “Solarize Santa Barbara”, the CEC’s goal is to “solarize” 50 homes in Southern Santa Barbara County in three months.
