SOhO Aiming to Get Amped

State Street Music Venue Raising Money for New Equipment

SOhO Music Club is hosting a fundraiser for (drumroll please) itself! As the only venue around to offer live shows every night of the week, SOhO’s sound equipment has seen better days, which is why the club is “reaching out to the community for support,” says PR and Events Coordinator Heather Luikart. The “SOhO family” came up with the idea for SOhO Amped Up!, a fundraiser and beer fest aimed at helping supplement their equipment budget. Proceeds from the night will go to buying new microphones, cables, monitors, a new amp, and the means to raise the stage a foot and a half higher. All these renovations are efforts to provide artists with updated and working sound equipment, which will make concerts not only sound, but look better too.

On Sunday, August 14, the club will offer a great lineup (featuring Santa Barbara music makers like Glen Phillips, The Goodland, King Bee, Comfort Machine, and many, many more) and beer tasting provided by Figueroa Mountain, Telegraph, and Firestone breweries, all included in the $15 admission price. There will also be barbecue, grilled by club owner Bob Hansen, for dinner. The benefit run from 2-10 p.m.

Luikart describes the event night as much more than just a fundraiser. “It’s going to be a fun, music-related event that is not only beneficial to everyone involved, but also reflects the spirit of some of the core values for all of us here in the SOhO family: local music, culture, and community,” said Luikart. Needless to say, this is one party you don’t want to miss. Call 962-7776 or visit sohosb.com for more information and tickets.
