Casa Esperanza Homeless Center hosts a benefit screening of new documentary film Urban Roots this weekend.

Urban Roots is a 2011 documentary about the growing urban farming movement that emerged in post-recession Detroit. In recognition of National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, S.B.’s Casa Esperanza Homeless Center will host a screening of the film this Saturday, November 12, at Fé Bland Forum (SBCC West Campus, 800 block of Cliff Dr.). The event raises funds for Casa and its own newly planted urban garden, which will grow fresh produce for the center’s Community Kitchen. The movie starts at 4 p.m. and is free; RSVPs are requested. Call 884-0123 for more info.
