The Chumash tribe was one of 22 communities nationwide — and one of two statewide — chosen for participation in an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) program meant to help jurisdictions guard against the effects of climate change. Through the program, EPA officials will study the tribe’s existing flood-resiliency plans and suggest ways to enhance their protocols. The City of Fresno, the other California selection, will use the program to initiate a bike-sharing system; more than 100 communities nationwide have participated since 2011.
