For those of us concerned about the current state of our government, it’s time to look past the Trump Show (it’s a one-act performance that is not going to change) and focus on the 2018 elections.

As long as the Republicans remain in control of the House and Senate, President Trump’s outrageous indiscretions will remain unchecked. They, with few exceptions, will not oppose him; and most certainly will not entertain impeachment.

While those of us in Santa Barbara who oppose the Trump Presidency live in a safe, Democratic Congressional district, there are other California seats that can impact the Trump presidency in 2018: Jeff Denham (R-Turlock), David Valadao (R-Hanford), Steve Knight (R-Palmdale), Ed Royce (R-Fullerton), Mimi Walters (R-Irvine), Dana Rohrabacher (R-Costa Mesa), Darrell Issa (R-Vista); the majority of them are in districts carried by Hillary Clinton.

Regardless of where we live, these races can be impacted in the traditional way by donations and volunteer efforts and by becoming engaged via social media. The internet (Twitter and Facebook) allows us to communicate directly with those constituents who will determine the outcome of these races. By taking this approach we can remind constituents what is at stake internationally regarding Russia and North Korea, and domestically regarding health care, taxes, and immigration. — and most importantly, the necessity of bringing dignity and integrity back to the Oval Office.
