The state plans to award $20 million to the county for two community residential treatment facilities in Santa Maria while DA John Savrnoch is supporting a state bill that would give state judges and prosecutors more say about which criminal defendants should be diverted into mental-health programs.
Supervisor Laura Capps said during a recent Board of Supervisors hearing that “overdose-related deaths are down by 41 percent since 2023,” emphasizing that community education efforts “are working.”
