Chaucer’s Books will host local author Betsy J. Green comes to Chaucer’s to talk about  her book, Movies & Million-Dollar Mansions: Silent Movies Made in Montecito.

“Movies & Million-Dollar Mansions: Silent movies made in Montecito, CA” is a ground-breaking book about silent movies filmed on the fabled estates of Montecito. Nineteen movie studios traveled from Hollywood (plus two from Santa Barbara) to film more than 60 movies there. The chapter for each movie contains a lively synopsis, behind-the-scenes info, plus photos from the movies and the million-dollar mansions.
About the Author
Betsy J. Green has been a writer for more than 25 years. She was an editor at “Reader’s Digest” and “World Book Encyclopedia” in her misspent youth. As a freelancer, she contributed articles to newspapers and magazines in the U.S. and abroad. She specializes in writing about local history, architecture, and the environment. She has written seven books about Santa Barbara history, including the “Way Back When” series and “MESApedia.” In her spare time, she writes “The Great House Detective” column for “The Santa Barbara
