As part of Mental Health Awareness Month and SBPL’s Book to Action focused on mental health and suicide, Santa Barbara Public Library is hosting a Compassion Center with Santa Barbara Response Network (SBRN).

This Compassion Center, will be about suicide, suicidology, suicidal thoughts, signs to be aware of, and resources available in our community and nationally. A particular focus on supporting our youth in Santa Barbara will be part of this conversation. The experiences of loved ones and survivors is eminently important in the conversation and can help bridge the conversation for those that may be in need.

The discussion will be followed by a Q&A hosted by SBRN and SBPL.

Book to Action is a grant-funded program through the CA Center for the Book that encouraged community members read and discuss an engaging book on a current topic, attend author or speaker events, and put their new-found knowledge into action by participating in a community service project or civic engagement activity related to the book.
California Center for the Book is a program of the California Library Association, supported in whole or in part by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, administered in California by the State Librarian.
