Please join us Thursday night, February 23 at 4:30 pm, for a lecture at the Westmont Ridley-Tree Museum of Art, hosted by G. James Daichendt. G. James Daichendt is an art critic, curator, and art historian that serves as Vice-Provost, Dean of the Colleges, and Professor of Art History at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, CA.

Jim is the recipient of a 2021 Lifetime Achievement award from the Office of the President of the United States for his service to the arts community and holds two master’s degrees and a doctorate from Harvard, Boston, and Columbia universities.

Street Art is changing the art world and how we engage art. From its origins in graffiti to its current manifestation that crosses borders into advertising, fashion, and urban development, it’s a movement and genre of art-making that is arguably more relevant and visible than any other since Pop Art. This presentation will provide an overview of the field while focusing on several California-based street artists, like GATS, and highlight issues of legality, success, and where it enters our own communities.

Refreshments will be provided.
