Many of us have experienced leaving a religion and may have wrestled with issues such as when and if to tell our families and how to fill the voids where religious community, rituals, and practices used to be.

Now imagine being a religious professionals, who find they no longer believe the dogma of their faith. Where do they turn for support?  Whom can they tell?  How do they transition into a secular life?

The Clergy Project (TCP) provides a safe and secure online community of forums composed entirely of religious leaders who no longer hold supernatural beliefs.

Lon Ostrander, President of TCP, will describe its history, its mission, the diversity and demographics of its participants, and the insights he’s gained from reading participants’ applications.  He will also share his own story, his vision for the organization and testimonials from its participants.

Speaker: Lon Ostrander, President, The Clergy Project has journeyed through Christianity having been married in both a Baptist and in an Evangelical Free Church.  He has worshipped with Pentecostals, American Baptists, Methodists, and Wesleyans.  He trained to be a pastor and was a pastor at Wesleyan churches in Georgia, Pennsylvania, and in New York state.

After 10 years of study, 6 years of pastoral experience, and with little hope of ordination, he walked away from the Wesleyan ministry and returned to his family’s blue-collar manufacturing roots. With many theological questions, his doubts persisted. He came to realize that belief in God was entirely optional.  As a participant in the Clergy Project since 2011, and its president since 2018, Lon supports the transition of clergy and former clergy to a secular life.
