Hungarian-born pianist András Schiff is one of the world’s foremost interpreters of the works of Johann Sebastian Bach. In 1990 he won a Grammy for his performance of Bach’s six English Suites, which he is now reprising for his current tour. He will perform the collection in Santa Barbara courtesy of CAMA. Schiff talks about the mystery surrounding the suites, including why they’re named “English”, when it’s clear there is nothing remotely English about them. (Lobero Theater, 4/19 @ 8PM)
