This week on Poodle Radio, Colin Marshall is first joined by reporter Chris Meagher to discuss the circumstances surrounding the stabbing at Hendry’s Beach on the evening of Thursday, April 15, the progress of the investigation into it and the task of covering such violent events in such a generally non-violent place as Santa Barbara.
In the second half, Elizabeth Schwyzer visits the studio to discuss the recent month-long Santa Barbara residency of famed New York choreographer Larry Keigwin, who, among other things, put together “Bolero Santa Barbara”, a physical celebration of the town created with dancers pulled straight from the community. Colin and Elizabeth discuss the product of such an unconventional process, the value of getting an outsider’s perspective on Santa Barbara (especially for a Santa Barbara native) and what it was like to both report on and participate in the production.
Food editor George Yatchisin also joins the crew for a few minutes to discuss the first annual Summer Barbecue Contest, letting the enterprising professional and amateur barbecuers among us (as well as the creative cocktail-mixers) know what they’re in for. Between all this, Poodle Radio music producer Aly Comingore has wrangled tracks from The Avett Brothers, Hacienda and the Title Tracks, all slated to play in town soon.
