Week in Sports Update


TOP SPORTING EVENTS: FEBRUARY 15-22

Every area high school is involved in the CIF Southern Section/Ford winter playoffs starting this week. The sports are basketball, soccer and girls’ water polo. Two undefeated teams – Dos Pueblos water polo (27-0) and Cate boys soccer (16-0) – are top-seeded in their divisions. See the schedule below for first-round matches.

There will be no admission charge to next Tuesday’s (Feb. 22) soccer exhibition between the UCSB men’s team and Major League Soccer’s D.C. United. It kicks off at 7 p.m. at Meredith Field at Harder Stadium. Chris Pontius, a third-year forward for United, will be returning to the field where he starred for the Gauchos in 2006-08.
