Richard Paul Franz
Richard Paul Franz passed away Friday, July 4, 2008 at his home in Oxnard, California. He was 75 years old. Richard, know by family and friends as “Dick” or “Rico”, was a man with a big heart, an every present smile, and a passion for Christ.
He was born on December 23, 1932 in Santa Barbara California. After graduating from Santa Barbara High School, he enlisted and served in the United States Air Force for 21 years. After his retirement from the Air Force he went on to work at Santa Barbara City College where he spent 20 years and retired in 1992. During his retirement he worked at the Braille Institute and was a care giver for Family Services.
He is survived by his large family: daughters, Debbie Franz, Adel Schmierer, son Richard Franz and his sister Pat Pina, His daughter Penny Kaiser is also remembered. He is also survived by his former wife, Annie Franz, step children Anna Ravenscroft, Millie Ravenscroft, Bruce Ravenscroft, Art Ravenscroft, Mark Ravenscroft, nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
A memorial service in his honor will be held Friday, July 11, 2008 at the Winslow Maxwell Overlook on the Santa Barbara City College Campus at 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the American Heart Association or Braille Institute.
