Beloved brother, uncle, friend and co-worker, Lindal Iverson passed away on August 18, 2008. Lindal was born in Boulder, Colorado on February 25, 1945 to Deola Mae Richards and Clarence Iverson. As a child, he lived in a house in Santa Barbara where the current County Administrative Building is now located.

A Combat Vietnam War Veteran, he enlisted from Santa Barbara into the US Navy in December 1965, where he served in the Landing Craft Unit. Recently, Lindal revealed that he had lost an entire decade dealing with the demons created by his war experience, and was often homeless.

He finally found peace almost ten years ago while living at the Victoria Hotel, when Peoples’ Self-Help Housing became the new owner and he was asked to be Assistant Property Manager. Early this year he applied to live at the new Casas Las Granadas housing next to the Granada Garage and began to help whenever possible with the City’s new Public Art Space Project being constructed by Peoples’ Self-Help Housing.

Lindal is survived by his brothers Walter Iverson, Shelby Richards, and Victor Richards, his sisters Shelba Richards and Deeola Gonzalez, and thirteen nieces and nephews.

The Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 22, 2008, 2:00 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church. Lindal, a Vietnam veteran, will be interred at Riverside National Cemetery. Arrangements by Pueblo del Rey Funeral Services, 805-895-8409.
