Marilyn Sturmer
Marilynn Sturmer, 87, passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 29th, 2008. She was preceded in death by her loving husband and soulmate for 50 years, Eugene (Gene) Sturmer.
Marilynn was born in Chicago, Illinois and was raised in Pasadena, California. After marrying Gene, they moved to Santa Barbara in 1951 and built a home in Montecito, where they raised their three sons, Lynne of Santa Barbara, Donald of Danville, California, and Kim of San Diego.
Marilynn assisted Gene with the administrative aspects of his appliance business. Marilynn’s two primary passions were gardening and painting. She took great pride and joy in her beautiful Montecito garden, which also provided her with inspiration for her many paintings and collages.
In her later years, Marilynn lived in an assisted living facility in San Diego that specialized in Alzheimer’s Disease.
Marilynn was a spirited and generous communicator who had a wonderful sense of humor that was inevitably accompanied by her raucous laughter! She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends in Santa Barbara.
Besides her three sons, she is survived by her sister, Marcia McDougall of Santa Cruz, her three grandchildren, Meredith, Eric, and Victoria, and several nieces and nephews.
At the request of the deceased, no services will be held, however, friends who wish to do so may make a contribution in Marilynn’s memory to the Santa Barbara Central Office of Alcoholics Anonymous.
