Imelda O’Brien, nee Phelan, passed away on October 8, 2014, at her son Sean’s home in Ireland, and is buried with her son David in Kilkenny, Ireland, where she was born. Imelda came to America as a young bride, arriving first to New York then later to Los Angeles where she raised her two sons Sean and David, and had a successful career in real estate. She eventually settled in Santa Barbara where she volunteered her time at the Old Mission and developed many close and loving friendships in the Santa Barbara area. She is survived by her son Sean, her three grandchildren, Alana, Conor and Kevin, four sisters and niece, Nuala, in Ireland. A Memorial Mass will be held on November 15, at 5:30 p.m. at the Catholic Church of the Beatitudes located at the First Congregational Church, 2101 State St. Santa Barbara, CA. A reception will follow.
