Fire Helicopter Crashes Near Figueroa Mountain

A helicopter intended to help fight the Zaca Fire crashed at 4:07 p.m. on Sunday, 7/8, in a field near Figueroa Mountain Road. Both the pilot and a passenger were transported to Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The cause of the crash, which occurred moments after takeoff, had not been determined. Other air crews were grounded for the night.
