Give a Little

• Volunteers are needed to keep the Arlington West memorial at Stearns Wharf going. Every Sunday at 7 a.m., the Veterans for Peace organization’s Santa Barbara chapter places 3,000 crosses in the sand to represent the deaths of U.S. servicemen and women in Iraq and Afghanistan. At 4 p.m., the crosses are taken down. The memorial has been happening every week since November 2003. Call 450-8420 for more info.

• The S.B. Botanic Garden is beginning to register new participants for its 2009 volunteer orientation. Branch out with new opportunities to cultivate your interests: enjoy plant propagation, lead tours for school children and adults, assist in the organization’s research department or library, or tend to the garden grounds. The orientation will take place January 28, 1-4 p.m. Call 682-4726 x126 for more info.
