Real World to Host Casting Call

Production Company Looks for New Members of Reality Show in Santa Barbara

If you are young, gregarious, and somewhat insane, leave your inhibitions at home and come to MTV’s Real World casting call at Baja Sharkeez on Saturday, May 15 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Bunim/Murray Productions, which is also responsible for various popular reality TV shows such as Project Runway and Keeping Up with the Kardashians, is looking for “People with strong personalities who are unafraid to speak their minds,” according to executive producer Jonathan Murray.

This perennial reality TV show, which is the longest running show on MTV, will be premiering its 25th consecutive season this upcoming winter. The show documents the daily lives of eight young people who live and work together for five months.

In order to maintain its legendary spark and sizzle, casting directors are looking for young adults, ages 18-24, with very specific and diverse life stories. Although the location of the show has yet to be determined, casting directors have some very specific suggestions for potential casting members. These include a young widow/widower, someone involved with the emo, goth, or punk subculture, someone who has been affected by a natural disaster, and a member of a pro-abstinence organization.

Although these qualities are certainly advantageous, they are not a requirement, and anyone with an outgoing personality and diverse background is invited to apply.

“Because it is our 25th season, we have already documented a lot of interesting people. We’re interested in hearing stories deserving of recognition that have not been told on the Real World yet,” said Assistant Casting Coordinator Katrina Veeh.

Out of 40 cities in the U.S., the Real World returned to Santa Barbara to do casting calls because of its vibrant, young college town population.

The casting call consists of a 20-minute roundtable discussion between 10-15 people and casting director Damon Furberg.

“The roundtable discussion gives casting directors a better idea of who has the brighter personalities,” said Veeh.

Applicants are asked to bring a recent photo of themselves, which will not be returned, and a form of identification indicating that they are between the ages of 18 and 24.
