Each August, Princeton Review releases over 60 lists of rankings ranging from most studious students (Harvey Mudd) to the most Birkenstock-Wearing, Tree-Hugging, Clove-Smoking Vegetarians (Skidmore). But every year, unsurprisingly, it’s the party ranking we want to know about. The 2014 results are in, and UC Santa Barbara takes the number 3 spot for knowing how to party best. The Princeton Review surveyed “130,000 students at 379 top colleges to rate their schools on dozens of topics and report on their campus experiences” to reach its reported rankings. Among the other top party schools were West Virginia U, University of Iowa (taking UCSB’s last year’s rank of number 2), and Syracuse University, which topped the list at number one.

UCSB made the top ten in not only Top Party Schools but the sister list of Lots of Hard Liquor, where it was endowed with a ranking of 6. It also ranked 11 in Reefer Madness, 12th in Lots of Beer, and 13th in Happiest Students. On a more academic note, UCSB continues to be regarded highly in Princeton Review’s The Best 379 Colleges.

More important than party rankings is academic rankings.

US News ranks UCSB #11 among public universities for undergraduate education.
Among graduate schools, it ranks UCSB’s Physics Department #10, Chemical Engineering #8, and Materials Engineering #2.

And that's what led to the problems. Proud to be a Gaucho, bummed it now stands for the wrong reason.

valleyfarmer, that's great news. But 25,000 kids don't come to town on the weekend to watch a physics experiment. Party School ranking brings in money.

The Parents send their kids for an Education for life, the Students come to UCSB for the Party cause that's what they feel is more important for life, and UCSB doesn't really care and long as the Greenbacks keep rolling in for LIFE!

The best physics experiment that can come from the douchebags coming to Isla Vista is the calculated force of a rubber bullet hitting the torso of a douchebag rioter. That's or the force of a billy club striking a douchebag rioter's noggin. Now THOSE are physics experiments I'd personally like to see conducted on a regular basis. Might just keep the douchebags out.
