Scarface Mansion for Sale in Montecito

The gaudy Montecito mansion featured in the 1983 gangster flick Scarface is now on sale for $35 million. Surrounded by more than 10 acres of gardens, the nearly 10,000 square foot estate at 631 Parra Grande Lane was designed by architect Bertram Goodhue in 1906 and was last purchased by Russian billionaire Sergey Grishin in 2009. It was listed for rent in 2012 for $30,000 a month.

According to Village Properties, the mansion recently underwent a multi-million dollar renovation that preserved its historic elements, including its entry hall and a “conversation room” that features a Byzantine-style alcove crowned with an 18-foot-high dome decorated with 24k gold leaf that was modeled after the church of St. John Lateran in Rome. The dining room has a barreled ceiling painted in gold leaf that depicts a scene of Alexander the Great conquering Persepolis.

The 4-bedroom, 9-bathroom estate — called El Fureidis, which loosely translates to Tropical Paradise — is also known for providing rare palm trees to Disneyland. There are more than 100 different types of palms and other trees on the property, including Montecito’s largest Moreton Bay Fig tree.
