On The Unitary Executive and the Erosion of Due Process

You never commented on my link about Capps. You care to tell us why you think she's intelligent?

I sum it up this way for liberals/progressives/Marxists/Statists (take you pick its all the same):
Intentions matter more than results.

The "progressives" on the council and everywhere else in America stopped believing in actual progress a long time ago. "Regressives" would be a much more accurate descriptor. There couldn't be a more ironic description they assign to themselves since "liberal" became a dirty word.
When the self-described "progressives" had unfettered rule of the city council we got great ideas like the absurd blue line to show the high water mark for global warming, which ended up being a national joke. I think that was actually our current Mayor's brilliant idea.
The "progressives" blew through our reserves, coddled the unions further destroying our fiscal health, made the homeless problem demonstrably worse through misguided policy and ignored the festering gang problems.
Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play?
You lefties should be happy you have some rational people like Francisco, Hotchkiss and Rouse on the council to protect you from your own dumb ideas and instincts. Its a shame Self didn't remain on their as well. She is a decent and common sense individual who did the right thing.
Things have improved markedly since the lefties actually had to defend and justify their mindless ideas. Believe it or not they save you flat earth, no growth, high density development, eco-marxists from yourselves. We can't afford your "vision" for Santa Barbara or America for that matter.
Thank god liberal dinosaurs like Falcone and Schwartz didn't make the cut. Maybe there is hope after all.

Capps is intelligent? She is a nice person and probably well intentioned but she is about as clueless as can be about things that actually matter. Be it basic economics, tax policy, business, health care, etc. she has little or no background or depth of knowledge. She has voted to pretty much bankrupt our country. Watch this and come back and tell me how smart she is:

Adam Smith did not support creating separate classes of people and confiscating their wealth at different rates. There is no way that you can logically make that case as it is antithetical to every thing else he advocates. It's nonsensical on its face and you quite clearly did not bother reading the link I supplied.
You don't understand Adam Smith if you believe he would have supported the progressive income tax as we now practice it. The progressive income tax is punitive and redistributionist, Smith would never support something like that. Marx supported this as he knew it fed the very class warfare he advocated as a tool to destroy capitalist systems, not Smith. If you believe that Marx and Smith would support the same thing you are kidding yourself.
As to saying we don't have the money, last time I checked we were about $15T in public debt and our GDP is about $14.5T. We are borrowing over 40% of what we spend. You seem to think we can just keep borrowing and spending with impunity and there is no serious consequence, we can just print more. You are incorrect. The historical point of decline for countries is when they pass the 90% debt to GDP ratio as the cost of debt service becomes a drag on growth. We are there now. You are living in fantasy land if you think we can continue to spend money like this.
I would also point out that our recent downgrade by S&P was specifically because our government has no hope of paying its current known liabilities and has shown no coherent plan to deal with the problem.

Adam Smith did not advocate a progressive income tax. That is a liberal article of faith that is a gross misrepresentation of what he said. This blogger actually does a decent job dissecting this fabrication:
Spending money you don't have when you are in over your head in debt is a recipe for disaster. Printing more money just to keep spending it is no different. You seem to think we are immune from basic laws of economics.
This is exactly what they been doing in Greece and other countries in Europe and it will likely end up badly. I don't see how the Euro survives this self-inflicted wound.

This is twilight zone stuff. Marty Blum lecturing anyone on anything is laughable. After doing her best as mayor to destroy Santa Barbara by blowing our reserves, encouraging homelessness and ignoring a festering gang problem, she's now doing her best to destroy City College and blow all of their reserves.
I don't know how it's possible to be wrong about just about everything but she manages to do it. Anyone she's against, I'm for!
