After watching only part of that video it amazes me that my father was a Battalion Chief for the fire department and put his life on the line for so many years to have people say snide remarks about what should have been done. As anyone who has been reading my posts the last few days, he was one of the families that lost his home of 44 years to the fire.
There was nothing that could have been done differently..would you have been out there fighting those flames coming at you in winds up to 70mph? As a child that was my one fear, I would lose my father, do to him saving someones home.
My heart goes out to the Gentleman's family whom died as a result of the stress and to the couple who was severely burned. I pray every night that they make it through this and live to enjoy their marriage, children and hopefully some day grandchildren.
As for the young adults whom accidentally started this fire, I have been going through all the emotions with how I feel towards them. Their lives are forever changed and I am sorry for that. Do I think that they deserve to be run out of town or called names and fearful for their lives? No...they are the ones that have to live with this horrible tragedy everyday for the rest of their lives.
Thank you all for giving me an outlet to speak my mind....Redwood

River,
Thank you, you are so kind for your response. My parents and their friends all had insurance however we do know of at least 3 families whose homes are on the slide and cannot rebuild. We don't know yet if my parents are going to be able to or not or if they even have the energy.
If anyone wants to do something for these folks the best thing to do is volunteer your time to bring sandbags to the people on Conejo Lane and Conejo Rd or to any of the areas that the slides are happening. The people of mountain drive and Coyote as well. They are all going to be in desperate need as soon as the rain starts and until it is over...that would be so graciously appreciated.
As far as building, I guess we will have to wait and see what the city says. I think that if these people want to that they should be able to rebuild, they have all lived there so long it is all they know. As my mom said "I just want to go home" That is the hardest thing right now, knowing I cannot do anything to help her, it really hurts.
Thank you all for your support of all these wonderful people who have made my life richer just by knowing them. I am humbled beyond belief......Redwood

I would just like to say to all of you out there..I have been living this tragedy since it has happened, my family and friends that I grew up with just lost everything except for each other, they have nothing!
Have any of you volunteered your time to help these people? Bought food for them? Maybe gone to see if their children have clothes or toys to keep them busy so they might be able to forget what happened as they were thrown in cars watching their houses burn? Offered to help sift through the ashes or clear the rubble. ANYTHING?
Many of these people have lived there 25 years plus and will not be able to rebuild...they are not wealthy, never asked for help and many wont now unless you persist.
If your answer is no, well shame on you...We the people of Santa Barbara should be pulling together and be sure they are not alone. Open your doors to them, it is the holiday season, many have no where to go...but everyone is so busy blaming "The Young Adults" that you are not thinking about the people in need.
Go out and do something nice for them...offer a smile, a hug...that goes a long way.Trust me I know, my heart breaks everytime I speak to my parents their dream is gone....

I am so sorry about your friend that passed away..My family and friends lost their homes in the Tea Fire and all their possesions however it has made them realize that they have each other and they will get through this difficult period of their lives. It could have been so much worse, we could have lost anyone of them with how fast it burned. We are grateful that everyone made it out.
I hope your home was saved. Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy your family and friends because in the end that is what matters....

The truth about the people that are from the area of Conejo Lane and Conejo Rd...they are proud blue collar workers, most of whom have lived there for 30 years plus, have raised amazing kind children and grandchildren with compassion and now that they are retired just trying to enjoy their little slice of heaven. You have retired Teachers, Nurses, FireChiefs, Fireman, Red Cross Volunteers, (Funny, right),Construction workers, Plumbers and many more the list can go on and on.
If anyone wants to say these people are rich your right they are rich...they are rich with people that care about them and are helping them in their time of need. Many are happy to have gotten out with their lives and nothing else. So if anyone wants to be so evil as to say unkind words you should be ashamed of yourselves I know your parents would be! You are probably the ones that are driving up and taking pictures of these people as they are grieving..shame on you, would you go to someones funeral you did not know? I didnt think so...please this has been hard enough give them help, that is all they need, a kind word, used clothes anything...and a smile that is what we the people of Santa Barbara should be doing at this time...Thank you, Redwood

Okay so I have been off line for awhile but I am back and I am mad!@
First to the Mayor of Santa Barbara...HOW DARE YOU SAY THAT "THE PEOPLE WHOM"S HOMES BURNED DESERVED IT"! WHO ARE YOU AND HOW DID YOU GET ELECTED! Many of them when they bougth did not know about the slide first of all and #2. WHY ARE YOU PROTECTING THE PEOPLE THAT SET THAT FIRE! ARE THEY PAYING YOU OFF SO YOU MIGHT GET RE-ELECTED?
Yes we would like answers...so if no one hears from redwood again you know they have kicked me off and won't let me speak my mind....
Like I have said GIVE US ANSWERS! and LET THEM REBUILD!'
I am sorry if I have offended anyone but nothing is being done for these people....7 weeks and everyone has forgotten....SAD, VERY SAD...
