Wow, some people are extremely opinionated about the green subject. First off, I would like to say I believe Jack is doing a great good. Sure, bio-diesel fuel may or may not come from the rain forest, but now that bio-diesel has been in production for as long as it has it is most likely not coming from endangered areas. And when compared to traditional fuel resources harvesting plant life for fuel is much more green than drilling for oil. It takes a million or more years to create oil. It only takes a couple of months to create a 20 foot tall bamboo forest. I know this because of the situation in my backyard. But, my point is that being "green" doesn't only have to do with green plants. It has to do with the earth and all of it's natural resources. Plants, being the most renewable source.
"The good" I referred to earlier is that Jack is utilizing his celebrity status to spread a message of being environmentally conscience. He is not forcing or telling anybody to do anything. He is merely making them aware. I believe he is not doing this for his own "self-important" good, as AShaw puts it. His/her comment about how people should cut out the middle man and donate directly to non-profit organizations, would be good for some. On the other hand, the non-profit would overall bring in more money from Jacks contributions. Whether we like it or not we are in a consumer based society. In short, people want to get something for their money. If people get to see a show from a musician they respect and enjoy listening they are more likely to give their money "indirectly" to a non-profit organization, rather than donating directly, when the only thing they would receive for their money is a tax write off.
Another thing that really irritated me was Ashaw's comments about Jack being hypocritical. That is like the tea pot calling the kettle black. His/her first negative remarks towards Jack's cause was calling him a "self-important" person. Then, he/she goes a rant at about 3:30 in morning saying that he/she does not have solar panels, a compost pile, or ride his/her bike anywhere because he/she lives in a bad neighborhood and is poor. Then he/she has the audacity to say Jack should buy him/her a new house house in a "rich" area solar panels and a new car. Jack doesn't sound like the one who thinks self-important here.
Well I just had to get those things off my chest. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and views.
