We don't have enough water to take long showers, and these guys want to use our aquifer for hydraulic fracturing? Oh, and then there is the small matter of increased earthquake activity. I like cheap energy as much as anyone else, but this is insane.

Let's mandate gray water systems and rain catching cisterns for all new construction and major remodels. Even if we get rain this winter, much of California is arid, and we need to accept that.

How about mandating that all new construction and major remodels in California include a cistern to collect rainwater runoff from the roof, a grey water system, and solar panels? After all, if the State can impose indoor sprinkler systems of dubious usefulness for all new structures, why not mandate something that would actually help?
Time to stop hand-wringing and come up with solutions.

"Expecting" decent behavior is not going to solve the problem. Telling them why you expect it, asking them why they are showing such disrespect for themselves and our community, treating them like people with the attendant rights and responsibilities would be more helpful.
We the citizens, not the cops or local officials are going to have to solve this. As for socialism, that has been tried and failed, but letting unfettered market forces turn our kids into indentured servants is clearly not working either. Let's set the labels aside and try to come up with common goals, shall we?
