Regardless of what one thinks of these knuckleheads, their *conferences* are illegal on the old Tip Top (Reagan) Ranch. They do not have a Conditional Use Permit for these conferences.,
And their buses, limos, and vans navigating one of the steepest, most narrow and pot holed road in the County is a danger to all who legitimately use Refugio Rd.
The irony is that when Reagan was President The government hauled so many tons of equipment up Refugio Rd in huge military trucks that they completely destroyed the thin pavement and we now have more patched pot holes than any road anywhere.
To add insult to injury, when Reagan left office and the government hauled all those tons of equipment back down the mountain they had the Reagan driveway repaved. But Refugio Rd? Just more potholes.

The moment I realized the awful truth was when I watched WTC7 come down. That was controlled demolition pure and simple. From that moment on I knew it was an inside job.

Funny thing is if they sell the ranch this year they pay 40% of the capital gains. Thanks to bush tax cuts that 40% goes away for 2010 for a year. On Jan 1st 2011 it comes roaring back to 45% as the bush tax cuts sunset. I for one hope that Rudy's wife lives a very long life. I hope she is well guarded.

I hope someone noticed that this deal also strips from the State Lands Commission the power to regulate offshore drilling. That opens the door for the PXP/EDC deal to go forward essentially ending the ban of oil drilling in State waters. Good going enviros. Better get that foot to the ER.

World wide Israel has lost much of it's good will. The attack on Gaza will go down as the beginning of the end of Israel. Robinson was right to shine a light on this issue for his students.

Chainsaw is quite correct. The natural gas seeps off Coal Oil Point contribute as much greenhouse gas as all the traffic on the south coast in any given day. Venoco is proposing tapping some of this gas using new horizontal drilling from their platform Holly. Greenies are opposed. Go figure.

Stocker was key in making the Sheriff also the County Fire Chief. What a disaster that was. Somebody please show him how to get back under that rock.

Speaking of cows, sacred cows, the big fat sacred cow in the corner that no one will discuss. Of course that is Prop 13 the infamous tax law that gives commercial property a huge tax break over residential property. California shot itself in the foot when it passed the Howard Jarvis sponsored initiative that allows property to be re-assessed only when it is resold or built new. This greatly favors commercial property owners. Perhaps Mr. Cushman will endorse changes in our property assessment process?

Goleta and any other community that depends on property taxes for a big part of it's revenue stream is going to be in for a big shock. Property values won't bottom out for at least two more years or longer. Homes that sold for $700,000 two years ago will eventually be worth less than 1/2 of that, likely 1/3 of that. Re-assessments will be demanded and total property taxes could fall by 20% or more. Sales taxes will also be down for the foreseeable future. The only solution is to downsize government.

This truly is a dumb idea. It reminds me of the snow covered faux mountain some foolish Middle East country built so people can sky in the middle of a desert. What Goleta needs desperately is a skate board park. A really good skate board park could be had for thousands, not millions of dollars. There are 100 times as many skate boarders as there are ice skaters. Once built a skate board park is almost maintainence free. It requires no power except for night lighting.
