Well looks like they have finally decided to get honest about how contained the fire is. That 70% they were listing has been wrong for a while. I mean just look at the open fire line! http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&a...
To make things worse....it's going to be like the perfect storm for the next 3 days. There is a Red Flag warning for extreme temperatures and north-easterly winds: http://forecast.weather.gov/wwamap/wwatx...

This week is going to be interesting to say the least.

Goleta Resident, I don't think you're quite understanding the magnitude of this fire. If the fire line were stretched out in a straight line it would run from Goleta to Oxnard!
Even if you had a flying saucer capable of sucking all the water out of Lake Casitas and dumping on said fire, you *might* put out 10-15% of the current fire line. That's only if the majority of that water doesn't flash boil from being dispersed from altitude on 200' plus high flames!
This fire has taken on a life of it's own at this point and is more a force of nature than a little forest fire. It's gonna take a number of good chess moves by the firemen and a good prayer for that Santa Ana wind to stay away.

If it is true that this man not only pulled his weapon but was pointing it at people downtown, he got what he deserved. The Santa Barbara Police responded and acted appropriately for the safety of the public. They pulled their weapons fired and killed the dangerous element without hurting anyone else in the process.
To the bed wetting liberals out there: What if they tried to not kill him and the man shot someone's kid or a few other people fighting back? There is only one response to a madman waving a gun at a crowd, put him down immediately without hurting anyone else.
Tax money well spent, IMHO.
Thanks SBPD.

Call me callous or just practical, but I'm not sure what the big issue is here. Suicide is a sad thing, but considering the rash of suicide-homicides in the past few years... I think someone that takes themselves out in a manner that doesn't harm or overly inconvenience anyone else in the process is fairly considerate. If they were nice enough to leave a note as to why, that's even better to help clear up any questions anyone has.
A barrier is just a silly waste of money. With the current situation of state and municipal budgets....can we really afford yet another expensive boondoggle?
We talk about all the money spent to recover the body... why recover it if it's just in a wooded area that no one goes to? Make the family foot the bill for recovery if the body is to be recovered.
Create more suicide help programs that people can call into for their loved ones to try to stop it.
Lets be smart, and that means not just running to spend more money that we don't have.
