This seems so ridiculous and unnecessary. The kids are the one that suffer in a situation like this. The kids felt that he was genuine and really cared. He made kids that were possible on the wrong path want to turn their life around.

Managements job is to understand what the future outlook of an organization is in all aspects and figure out a way to meet the mission no matter what. If serving the kids of the community is part of the mission how is letting one of the most integral members of the team go doing your job? If anyone needs to be let go it is the management for their failure to find mitigations to a budget constrained environment. Plenty of people are figuring out how to maintain their organization or business in this different fiscal environment. Nothing is more important than children having a chance to experience positive and constructive outlets and Bernard is essential in creating this opportunity. His dedication can't be replaced by cuts and "adjusted job descriptions"!
All that being said, leaders of an organization have a tough job and are human and make mistakes...luckily you always have the opportunity to stand up and admit that mistake, then try as hard you possibly can to remedy the situation. However, it takes courage to do this..hopefully that courage is present in this situation.
