I think any such aether must now be viewed as having been "created" by the expanding and cooling CBR, which is just a little bit non-uniform or non-absolute due to the observed (and genuine?) anisotropies. Are you suggesting there is some pre-existing isotropic aether, which preceded the singularity of the Big Bang? If so, is such a concept useful and does it have any practical ramifications? How could we ever know or prove such an aether existed? (BTW, where did Mr. Hunt go?)

The whole has an existence independent of the parts, and feeds back to affect and determine the nature of the parts. Similarly, the parts have an existence independent of the whole, and feed back to affect and determine the nature of the whole. These polar processes create contradictions, that attract attention. The attentive observer perceives a sequence of contradictions and calls that sequence "time."

The tone, tenor, and timing of the Dudley novel was unfortunate, unprofessional, and poorly written. (Like Nancy Grace on a really, really bad day.) It was polarizing, unilluminating, and embarrassed the many fine prosecutors of the Sneddon administration. Joyce should apologize and move forward. From the elected DA, we deserve better.

On Haraguchi Sentenced to One Year

Nick Welsh, Bob Sanger, and all others mentioned in the article will recall that the Public Defender's Office litigated side-by-side with Sanger, spending hundreds of hours developing measures to make the jail safer for both inmates and staff. We had our own clients who were also courageous enough to speak up and risk the potential reprisals. Public Defender Glen Mowrer realized that this was an important issue for the County and took it on in the 80's. The County has been well-served by this aggressive and highly-competent department.
