Was SBBT something sacred? When they ran out of real local talent they turned management over to Birch, Thomas and Leis - none with any real banking talent. Thomas was fired over the IRS refund loan program (got $$$ for his shares!), then rehired to run Montecito branch! Ford and the Japanese Union Bank may be making mistakes, but the REAL errors were with the trio of incompetence listed above. Santa Barbarans lost a billion $ in SBBT stock thanks to their lack of talent. Huttenback fired Birch from UCSB and Leis (after Northridge) worked for Deutsche Bank where he glad handed old ladies! Neither had banking talent. Ford bought it for next to nothing after an all night meeting with Leis where Leis was probably beaten to death - with an annual meeting the next morning! What bozo's!

How can a whole branch be guilty?? Were they all high on drugs? Better start by looking at George Leis and Ed Birch whose mismanagement sucked a billion$ away from this bank's investors over 5 years. How can anyone in SB have respect for this institution?? Get the story of this latest fiasco!

Probably no one at SBMA knows it but it's the Von Romberg Gallery, not Romberg. He was the son of a German WWI flying ace and his wife from a Boston banking family. He was a polo player and pilot who married a Montecito girl about 1940. Lutah Riggs built them a wonderful house where Dru Barrymore now resides. The Baron von Romberg died at a young age in a plane crash in New Jersey. His widow remarried and as Emily Tremaine amassed an unparalled collection of modern American art. Lord/Lady Ridley Tree bought their titles from an advertisement in a British magazine!

The TARP aid came long before Ford. What did Ford do to deserve hundreds of millions of dollars profit? The bank was run by idiots!

What a tragic history for a bank founded by talented responsible businessmen, destroyed by talentless management by Thomas, Leis and Ed Birch, raped by a Texas billionaire who bargained until 6AM with the incompetent executives. At 10AM they announced the agreement with Ford which dropped the stock (owned by thousands of Santa Barbarans including employees) from $30 to 20 cents! Ford then sold his new investment to the Japanese for 45 cents a share ($45 after the REVERSE split!) and pocketed a huge profit! Leis, Birch, Thomas and Ford count their profits and shareholders, former employees and employees look to a miserable future. How sad for Santa Barbara and misguided capitalism.

What a stupid kissing up to the dumb museum establishment that just cut free admissions from all day Sunday to THREE hours Wednesday evening! This museum was founded by serious well meaning people in 1941 who insisted it be FREE TO ALL! Some bozo Chicago ad man on the board instituted the $3 admission (now $10!) about 1985. This genius decision now results in trivial gross $168,000 admissions for a budget of millions and eliminates thousands of potential visitors. This is absolute NONSENSE when you stop to think of the REAL purpose of the museum! It is NOT to provide secure employment to a tribe of modest talents; it is to bring art appreciation to anyone who wants it! Wake up to the real purpose or see us members burn our membership cards on your front steps!! I will no longer tolerate this obscene diversion from the founders purpose!!!

The stated purpose of the SBMA is "To integrate art into the lives of people." I don't feel any joy or enthusiasm.
