Goleta Committee Opposes Brown Act

On 5/7 Goleta’s standing committee on legislative issues reported to the council that it sent a letter to the California legislature opposing changes to the Brown Act, which dictates what government functions must be transparent to the public. The bill, proposed by state Senator Gloria Romero, would end non-procedural communications between a legislative body – such as a city council – and its staff outside an open and public meeting. The California League of Cities had sent out a call for opposition letters.
