Does this lovely face look familiar?
Robby Robbins

As you probably know, the annual Summer Solstice Parade reigns as one Santa Barbara’s best celebrations, a crowd-pleasing, cheerful mix of creativity, craftsmanship, and chaos.

With this summer being the first time we here at The Santa Barbara Independent are playing along with the Solstice Celebration Crew and building our very own float, we thought it would be fun to share our progress with you.

Plus, we thought it would be the perfect time to host yet another Independent.com contest, and give our loyal readers some cool prizes.

So check out the photos here on this page and in these galleries. Got any idea what it is we’re up to?

If you do – or even if you’re just plain guessing – tell us what you think we’re building. All correct answers will be reward with a free Independent stuff.

To enter online, go here. To enter by email, send an email to freestuff@independent.com. To enter in person, head down to the Solstice Workshop at 631 Garden Street, Wed.-Fri. 3-8 p.m. or Sat.-Sun., noon-6 p.m.

And don’t let us have all the fun. You too can join in the Solstice float-making revelry simply by heading down and signing up. So head to the workshop now and take part in Santa Barbara’s most creative and life-loving celebrations.

If you’d like to learn more about The Indy mystery float – or perhaps volunteer to give us a hand-shoot an email to Robby Robbins at robby@independent.com.
